The Fame Game by Jim Loftus

Released in September 2000, this is my first official CD of original music and is available at The theme intricately woven through this extremely melodic, thought-provoking CD is the struggle of it's characters to achieve fame and fortune in LA or the Big Apple. The title track, along with "Sweet Little Lady" and "Man Who's Really Been Around the Town" drive that theme home quite well. Other songs that contribute to the tone are "This Cycle", a disparaging lament of a day in the life; the sensual saga of the steamy side is captured in two-back-to-back funk rock numbers "All Inside Of You" and "Burn the Candle At Both Ends". Striking departures welcome the listener with the beautiful ballad writing Jim is capable of. "Midsummer Night's Dream Come True" see its central figure a woman trapped in Shakespeare's era(1592-inspired by the film "Shakespeare In Love"),unable to enact the roles in her time-and so she comes in a dream to play the various great roles of Juliet, Lady Macbeth, etc(and so her struggle for fame and recognition is relegated to someone's dreams-a stroke of genius on this writers part). Following this Beatlesque gem is another dreamscape-"Land of Make Believe"-a lovely samba with a Genesis/Peter Gabriel atmosphere with clever tongue-twisting lyrics. "Mary Kate" is a Boston dreamballad about a pending high-school reunion; "Heaven In Your Heart" and "Should Anything Ever Happen" could be NSync's next two hits-absolutely beautiful modern pop songs with multiple part harmonies; and "Where Do You Go" is a brilliant ballad ala Elton John dealing with a woman trapped in a loveless marriage. The two remaining songs are possibly everyone's favorite songs on the CD and have been featured in the media. "Senorita Tell Me Why" was inspired by viewing a Ricky Martin special, and was written immediately after within one hour! This and many other tunes have received airplay in PA-"Senorita" additionally has been performed with Jim's trio "Three Together" in an opening act performance with Todd Rundgren, and on the Valley Arts TV show hosted by Paul Willistein on RCN Cable CH.4 in the Lehigh Valley. "I'll Sing It'-the most requested and possibly best all-around song on the CD-went as high as #2 on the TOP 100 charts--"HEAVEN IN YOUR HEART" also made those charts going to #8.

"A Little '60's Tune"

CD single "A LITTLE '60's TUNE" was released late in 1999 several months before my debut CD "THE FAME GAME"(released September 2000). It is a tribute song to the '60's, but more importantly was written at the dawn of the Millennium as we all had fears of "Y2K" and pending doom; our fears were fanned either by religious belief or Orwellian novels---to some it was just another New Year--but I think most of us ran the gamut of nail-biting to preparing for the worst by stocking shelves with canned goods...and yes, a select few were ready for Armageddon with stockpiles of ammo and gas masks. With all these thoughts in mind, this little ditty which intersperses musical riffs and vocals from several famous '60's songs, intended to be an uplifting Beatlesque/Monkees-like tune that would infuse us all with hope. The main chorus, "Peace, Love and Happiness, who would have ever guessed, we could have reached it in 1999--what a state of bliss, who could have pictured this, they sang about in in 1969"...says it all. The idea of the song was to foster that innocent Summer of Love feeling of the '60's and have that prevail into the New Millennium. When I wrote the melody, I realized it had an overwhelming '60's feel to it and so the song essentially wrote itself--"This Little '6o's Tune came to me in my sleep" actually did. And it seemed like it could have been written by Lennon, Mamas & Papas, Donovan, etc., and so I mentioned several of these artists and wove their melodies in with mine to create what has been hailed as a little masterpiece. The song played across the nation in late 1999, promoted by Kenny Loggins' cousin Paul Loggins out of Santa Monica. The feedback was fantastic, I interviewed with various DJ's across the country after the song aired--was a very cool time. And now this literal collectors item is available FOR YOU TO PURCHASE at a very reasonable price at CDBaby. Go to to hear it and purchase it for only $5.00!

DVD It is exciting for me to make available after almost 10 years of it's initial presentation--a DVD of my original musical "GHOSTS ON BROADWAY." Performed in a showcase at the John Houseman Theatre in May 1995, the May 4th show was professionally videotaped and has been on VHS tape--UNTIL NOW. Thanks to modern day technology of VHS transfers to DVD--I can make this available to the general public. What is also exciting is that I am bringing a fuller realization of the show back to NYC hopefully within a year. "Ghosts on Broadway" has a score reminiscent of "Phantom" or "Les Miz" with romping comedic songs of the traditional Broadway era and also straight ahead melodic pop rock and jazz-tinged sexy numbers that scintillate. "Ghosts' examines the street performer/homeless/street people syndrome which has recently become welcomed on Broadway in shows like "Brooklyn" and "Under the Bridge". Directed by my long time friend Walter Winston ONeil(currently in the Broadway show "Wicked") and starring Andrew Varela(currently in the new Broadway show "Little Women"), this DVD of "Ghosts on Broadway" captures the original gusto of a show that I hope to fully realize beyond a "showcase stage" very soon; major producers and investors have been contacted as well as a playwright to tighten the dialogue and advance the story. To obtain the DVD, send $18.00 to: JIM LOFTUS, P.O. Box 815, Green Lane, PA 18054. A future website for the musical is in the works and will be available at that site---check back here at for updates on this project!
