Story

On my original CD "THE FAME GAME" many if not all of the songs were not about a specific person but a hybrid of influences came into play--on my 2nd CD(though it is in 'demo' form)--just the opposite holds true, and this song was a direct attempt at addressing something in a relationship I was going through--it is truly one of my best songs ever written and I'm very proud how it turned out(she also thought the melody was beautiful--and even thought they could live apart from the lyrics)...as a lyricist--I agree to disagree--lol.

Lyrics

WOMAN OF MY HEART 1)Woman of my heart, Only wanted you to see my soft side ‘Stead you saw a glimpse into my dark side But that’s not me that you see— He’s the child who won’t let me be, He pouts and frets and stomps his feet, When he is denied his treat, His ev’ry whim you have to meet, But I won’t let him get his way 2)Woman of my heart, I can make you laugh and keep you smiling, What you saw in me that was reviling, He won’t be back, Gave him the sack, I sent that bully home to pack, He knows better than to mess With something as good as this, You can give that guy A kiss goodbye--goodbye, oh— Chorus: Woman of my heart, Do not fear please stay by me Woman of my heart, Road is clear please pray by me, Woman of my heart, Lay your head upon my chest Woman of my heart, Lay your doubts away to rest 3)Woman of my heart, First impressions sometimes are deceiving, And some of mine that you have been receiving Do not appear to be quite clear— Said they filled you with a fear, But that wasn’t my intent, That bad spirit came and went, He just wanted time To vent his pride denied, oh—(back to chorus)

Story

There are just so many things I love about this song--the inspiration came from seeing a dear friend's girlfriend jump up around his shoulders and ride him piggyback at closing time in a bar--they were so in love and it was such a joyful moment that it stuck like a snapshot in my brain and formed the basis for this song--("She grabs my shoulders, she rides me piggyback into the shower")...I wanted to capture that crazy morning-after bliss of two lovers, and the numerous "Jack & Jill" nursery rhyme references played so well with building the song's focus...also love the rhyme schemes(dresser/caress her..."wrestle" also fits snugly in that line)...also the slight changes in the choruses were a fun discovery("something good as this will GET OUT--something good as this will GIVE OUT")...I enjoyed performing this on guitar at an open-mike at the great songwriter venue THE POINT in Bryn Mawr as I feel it is one of my best direct songs--and it was well received.

Lyrics

A Climb Up the Hill She wears my T-shirt She makes me so happy I just can't stand it She pours the coffee She makes a mess on the sheets like she planned it We laugh 'til tears flow If this is Heaven then I want a refill Where did the cap go? Bottle this up coz I don't want it to spill-- And it will-- Something good as this will get out What a thrill--my Jill Everyday's a climb up the hill She throws my pillow I duck and it hits the lamp on the dresser We start to wrestle She finally stops when I start to caress her She grabs my shoulders She rides me piggyback into the shower My arms enfold her I won't let go 'til we're over the hill-- And we will-- Something good as this will give out What a thrill--my Jill Everyday's a climb up the hill Bridge: If it's a dream then please don't wake me up Won't somebody come and fill my cup? Fetch the pail and let me be the suppliant pup Dress her up or down Either way she still paints the town What a thrill--my Jill Everyday's a climb up the hill If I fall down--break my crown She will still come tumbling down What a thrill--my Jill Everyday's a climb up the hill

Story

Hey I won't lie to you--we all go through breakups and this was a song I really enjoyed writing--rather than soaking in my sorrows I chose this acerbic tongue-in-cheek blues romp to address my situation...and I think many can relate to it so play this one often when you're in the relationship doldrums!

Lyrics

THE BREAKUP BLUES Tryin' to get myself signed get this girl off my mind But nothin' works Doin' all that I can, find an alternate plan But nothin' works So I drown my sorrows right from the bottle Then I quote some Shakespeare and Aristotle Few more sips and now I'm starting to waddle I need to coddle... But no one is there, why don't she care We used to bare our souls truth or dare But no one is there... She used to be on my side, now I find that she lied No she don't care She used to sing all my songs, now she rights all my wrongs No she don't care There is nothing I can do that will please her Even when I quote from Julius Caesar Maybe I'll just try to tickle and tease her Try to unfreeze her... But she isn't there, why don't she care We used to bare our souls truth or dare But she isn't there So I think I'll take a drive to Manhattan Sing a verse or two from "Nights in White Satin" All I know is I'm in no mood for chattin' It's zero I'm battin'... But she isn't there, why don't she care We used to bare our souls truth or dare But she isn't there (repeat a few times)

Lyrics

He's a genius without a map It still amazes me the things that fall into his lap Like a tree without the sap He stands erect but you can break his limbs with just one snap He has a charming rap the line goes 'round the block for miles to listen to this chap Like a keg of beer on tap, His message kicked some years ago but still they buy his crap Chorus: He's the mass production prophet of the pulpit of our times Take the tax deduction off it and incorporate his crimes He's the MEDIA MESSIAH he's the image that we chase He should be a pariah but he gets the palace place They'd follow him to war specially if they didn't know just what the fighting's for He'll talk about the poor and paint a picture like you're on a homeless virtual tour He speaks with such allure He clothes you and he feeds you at his one-stop warehouse store He's rotten to the core But still the masses take his apple and consume the gore (repeat chorus,...guitar lead..repeat chorus)

Story

I just really love this song! It's like cheap medicinal advice for a relationship and maybe it works against the long-held theory that 'you have to WORK at relationships'--well this is a twist on that--saying 'why does it HAVE to be WORK??'--I dunno--whatdya think Dr. Phil?

Lyrics

LOVE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE Life's a struggle it's an endless climb Lot's to juggle hey who has the time Remember though--that love doesn't have to be You have to work at love that's what they say Constant drudgery no time to play Remember though--but love doesn't have to be When there's a storm in your relationship No one's talking and the skies grow cloudy Seek the warmth the loving sun can give Let it melt away the pain Even in the driving rain You've been searching for that perfect life Perfect husband, the perfect wife Remember though--that love doesn't have to be Don't spend your life inspecting every flaw Try to appreciate the imperfections You many find treasures there you never saw Take the time to see what's there Let your lover know you care Give yourself a break don't chase so hard Life is now and you hold every card Remember this--yet love doesn't have to be Life's a struggle it's an endless climb Lot's to juggle hey who has the time Remember though--that love doesn't have to be No love doesn't have to be Love doesn't have to be... Love doesn't have to be...

Story

I've had the music for this song as far back as the sessions for "THE FAME GAME" in 2000--and really before that--the tune was probably conceived in the mid to late 90's--I always had a concept of "Walking in the park...in the middle of December" running through my head--but it took until 2003 to distill those thoughts and become more specific about WHAT park--once "Central Park" was the core the other relevant stories of 9-11 and Lennon's death fit perfectly...also, the Lennon reference fits snugly into the dreamscape of the music as it is eerily reminiscent of his "#9 Dream" where Yoko whispers his name during some of the verse lyrics ("someone called out my name [John]..as it started to rain [John]..two spirits dancin' so strange...)..so my allusion to that song was a concerted effort...ironically I did not realize that last year was the 150th anniversary of Central Park and so the song is timely as well--I have included the ENTIRE song on the download on my site here--enjoy!

Lyrics

(Chorus:) Central Park, after dark city goes to sleep Restless heart night so stark Love can grow so deep Love comes unexpectedly to your heart Love comes unexpectedly to your heart 1)Walking Central Park in the middle of September Memories so dark 9-11 you still remember Still there seems, seems to be a peaceful Autumn scene— The leaves no longer green Central park is a refuge, it’s an oasis waiting for you— Like an ark in the deluge It is a haven waiting to take you away—even today (chorus) 2)Walking Central Park in the middle of December Memories so dark December 8th you still remember Thought I heard(John) like a dream John’s voice Called out to me— “love is all you need” Imagine if he were here now, Some say he never left the city— He’s walking in the park now Helping us find the peace we need So desperately—we hold the key (chorus)

Lyrics

Night falls, love calls, night air she’s there Warm stare, love glare, Nightwear—unbear, Nighttime can take the edge off the stress of the day Unwind and don’t you dredge up the mess of the day Kickup your heels and go hear your favorite band play Hear ‘em play—oh yeah oh hear them play Leave all the negative vibes Leave the madness behind, take a moment for you Nighttime is time to turn off the noise in your mind Unwind take flight from those who would poison your mind Run to the night of your dreams Take full sight of your dreams Seize the moment tonite
