Story

"A LITTLE '60's TUNE" was released late in 1999 several months before my debut CD "THE FAME GAME"(released September 2000). It is a tribute song to the '60's, but more importantly was written at the dawn of the Millennium as we all had fears of "Y2K" and pending doom; our fears were fanned either by religious belief or Orwellian novels---to some it was just another New Year--but I think most of us ran the gamut of nail-biting to preparing for the worst by stocking shelves with canned goods...and yes, a select few were ready for Armageddon with stockpiles of ammo and gas masks. With all these thoughts in mind, this little ditty which intersperses musical riffs and vocals from several famous '60's songs, intended to be an uplifting Beatlesque/Monkees-like tune that would infuse us all with hope. The main chorus, "Peace, Love and Happiness, who would have ever guessed, we could have reached it in 1999--what a state of bliss, who could have pictured this, they sang about in in 1969"...says it all. The idea of the song was to foster that innocent Summer of Love feeling of the '60's and have that prevail into the New Millennium. When I wrote the melody, I realized it had an overwhelming '60's feel to it and so the song essentially wrote itself--"This Little '6o's Tune came to me in my sleep"...it actually did. And it seemed like it could have been written by Lennon, Mamas & Papas, Donovan, etc., and so I mentioned several of these artists and wove their melodies in with mine to create what has been hailed as a little masterpiece. The song played across the nation in late 1999, promoted by Kenny Loggins' cousin Paul Loggins out of Santa Monica. The feedback was fantastic, I interviewed with various DJ's across the country after the song aired--was a very cool time. A great debt of gratitude to guitarist Scott Erickson for coming up with the different riffs/leads that fit so snugly into the chorus chord changes; other musicians on the record include Jon Wilson on drums(former Jake Kaligis band, now residing in Iowa), Stefon Pizzuto on bass (from Simon Apple), and Scott Erickson and Sarah Ayers on backing vocals. Yours truly on keyboards, of course.

Lyrics

A LITTLE '60's TUNE This Little ‘60’s Tune came to me in the night Leftover from an era that someone forgot to write Was it from the pen of groovy Donovan? Or maybe Ray Davies, the Who or John Lennon? This Little ‘60’s Tune came to me in my sleep Sounding like a TV show theme something not too deep (“Ba da Ba Da Bop Ba”) What this angel said it got me out of bed As she seemed to whisper this mantra in my head She said: CHORUS: Peace Love and Happiness who would have ever guessed We could have reached it in 1999 What a state of bliss who could have pictured this They sang about it in 1969 This Little ‘60’s Tune could have been such a hit Can’t you hear Mama Cass Eliot singing it: (“Ba Da, Ba Da Da Da”) Or maybe Davy Jones, Neil Diamond and the Stones (“Ba Da Da Da Bop Bop Ba Da Da”) Or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in their dulcet tones: (“Carry On…”) They’d be singin’— CHORUS: Peace Love and Happiness who would have ever guessed We could have reached it in 1999 What a state of bliss who could have pictured this They sang about it in 1969 BRIDGE: “Let the Sunshine….Timothy Leary!” “One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small” “Here Comes the Sun, Doo doo doo doo” In the New Millennium, will we all be getting some Peace, Love and Happiness will it ever come? After Y2k, will we all still be OK, Will we have our say in the New Millennium? (Repeat chorus several times; behind vocals as the song fades, various guitar riffs and leads are heard from the following songs:) 1. What You're Doing(The Beatles) 2. Last Train To Clarksville (The Monkees) 3. Mr. Tamborine Man (The Byrds version) 4. Green River (Creedence Clearwater Revival) 5. Sunshine Superman (Donovan) 6. Day Tripper (The Beatles) 7. You Can't Do That (The Beatles)
