  1. This Cycle

From the recording This Cycle

This is the last song recorded for "THE FAME GAME" sessions because it was written last, and all the studio musicians I had used had already recorded their parts for the 13 other songs. So I used my Kawai synth keyboard to do the bass and drum parts and piano, and had Scott Bradoka overdub some great guitar chords and percussive accents. It turned out really well and stands out as a very different track on the CD that addresses what many folks in our society are going through--crazy daily manic stress.

Lyrics

                                           THIS CYCLE
CHORUS:
I can't remember the last time I cried, can you?

I go to the post office go to the bank
And I go to Sunoco and fill up the tank
And I pick up the paper and check on my mail
Everyday it's the same routine done without fail
It's an unending cycle of day to day chores
As I'm standing in line at the grocery stores
Or I'm waiting to fill the prescription I need
For the stress that is causing my ulcer to bleed
Oh I wonder how long it will be 'til I'm freed
From this cycle, this cycle, this cycle, this cycle,
This cycle, this cycle, this cycle, this cycle (CHORUS)

I check all the messages left on my cellular
When I got yours I could instantly tell you were
Stuck in a traffic jam pulling your hair out
Your voice and your patience were starting to wear out
So I call you back and I tell you don't panic
Coz my day has also been equally manic
My partner and I they decided to fire us
They blamed us for starting a computer virus
I tell you my friend I am getting real tired of this cycle,
This cycle, this cycle, this cycle, this cycle,
This cycle, this cycle, this cycle (CHORUS)

The school and the real estate taxes are due
The car registrations are up for renewal
And just when I thought I was getting a refund
The IRS calls and says "please do not be stunned"
"We're auditing you it's a common procedure"
"You owe us back taxes but you can go plead your case
Straight to the judge and a jury of peers
You'll be out on parole in a couple of years"
Can't you see how my life is caught up in the gears
Of this cycle, this cycle, this cycle, this cycle,
This cycle, this cycle, this cycle, this cycle (CHORUS)
